Welcome to St. Peter's Church

This includes baptisms and weddings.

A Prayer for the World

God of love and hope,
You made the world and care for all creation, but the world feels strange right now.
The news is full of stories about Coronavirus.
Some people are worried they might get ill.
Others are anxious for their family and friends.
Be with them and help them to know your peace which passes all understanding.
We pray for doctors and nurses and scientists,
and all who are working to discover the right medicines to help those who are ill.
Thank you that even in these anxious times,
you are with us.
Help us to put our trust in you and keep us safe.

A word from Rachel, the vicar

These are strange and worrying times for everyone. Things are changing around us and no doubt we will feel out of control and troubled. But I would like to encourage you to try to keep a sense of perspective on the whole coronavirus situation. Both the government and the Church of England are providing us with regular updates on how to keep ourselves and others as safe from infection as possible, and if we follow these instructions there is little more we can do in practical terms. However, we are children of God and believe in the real presence and power of the Holy Spirit and so we should be encouraged to pray and reflect and be renewed by that power.

Praying for each other, ourselves and the world around is a vital part of the support we can give to our community. We may be socially isolated but through our common faith we can be joined through prayer to the wider church, and never has there been a greater need for prayer. The world is changing and our nation is changing with it in the light of this virus, but our God is an unchanging reality for those who put their trust in Him. So, trust in God and be encouraged by the fact that people are praying for you as you are for them. Take time to read your bible and find reassurance in the familiar words and promises of hope found within the pages and praise God for his faithfulness.
